The wonders of iPlayer are no longer the reserve of the Brits. As of today, iPad users in 11 other countries across Europe can subscribe to the service for €7 per month or €50 per year. That equates to $10 — just about living up to the Beeb’s promised maximum price. The subscription grants access to a wealth of TV classics, like Fawlty Towers and Only Fools & Horses, as well as unwitting comedies like EastEnders. Some sort of motoring series by the name of Top Gear is also available, for those who like cars and middle-aged men in pointy shoes.

There’s still no confirmation as to when it will be headed to the soon-to-be-released Verizon Xperia Play, but Recombu is reporting that at least some iterations of the phone will be getting upgraded to Android 2.3.3 next week, at which point the Xperia Arc will also get bumped up to the same version. Assuming there’s no surprises in the next week, that would seem to make them the first non-Nexus phones to get the update. What’s more, in addition to various Android-related updates, both phones will also be getting Sony Ericsson’s so-called “Facebook inside Xperia” update, which promises to more deeply integrate your phone (including your calendar, contacts, and even music) with the social network.

Nokia is celebrating the launch with a special offer. Everyone who purchases five tracks on the Nokia Music Store gets five other tracks for free. This offer is valid for the first 10,000 registrants who purchase five tracks at once.

With a single account, music lovers can access the Nokia Music Store via their desktop computer or directly from optimized Nokia devices such as the Nokia N81 and Nokia N95 8GB. Browse for new music, get recommendations or search for your favorite artists, songs or albums all from the palm of your hand. Once a track captures your attention, you can add it to your wishlist to buy later or purchase it immediately for download to your device without having to download the same song again on your computer. You can also transfer purchased songs via your PC to compatible Nokia devices.

Individual tracks will cost €1.00 per track and albums from €10.00. Nokia Music Store will also offer a monthly subscription for PC streaming for €10.00. All music on the Nokia Music Store can be purchased through a variety of payment options, including credit cards and pre-paid vouchers. Other highlights include the ability to listen to a 30 second clip from any track on the store.
